ICT is an industry that plays a role in almost every single industry today and while not everyone might know exactly what its role is, this industry has had a major influence on the world we know today.

Some ICT Industry Stats:

At the beginning of April 2025, 5.64 billion people or 68.7% of the worlds’ population were able to access the internet (Digital around the world, n.d.).

Google processes around 8.5 billion searches per day (Flensted, 2024).

Smartphones today are far more powerful than the Apollo Guidance Computer used to guide Apollo 11’s mission to the moon(Kendall, 2021).

Smart home devices save families hundreds of dollars yearly due to reduced household energy consumption (Asurion, 2025).

Every online payment carried out relies on the ICT industry and its infrastructure.

eLearning has seen significant growths in the past few years. This industry is predicted to reach the market value of $185 billion during the 2025 year (42 Elearning Statistics 2025, 2025).

Remote work / working from home set-ups would not be possible without the ICT industry.

Based on research carried out by Fortinet , 60 percent of organisation are running more than half of their “workloads in the cloud”.

According to ResearchGate, the use of ICT tools like, video conferencing and remote working setups, can reduce business travel by around 70% (Shrivastava, 2012).

End-to-end encryption is enabled by ICT and ensures the privacy of billions of call and messages sent every day (Ibm, 2021).
